Labor Policy

Policy Priorities for 2008

  • Oppose unreasonable expansion of workplace mandates and craft alternatives when necessary.
  • Aggressively oppose initiatives to make union organizing easier, including union-backed proposals to abolish secret ballot elections in favor of card check majorities for union recognition.
  • Oppose efforts to expand leave or to mandate paid sick leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
  • Oppose efforts to expand civil rights laws by increasing the amount of punitive and compensatory damages available, the potential for frivolous litigation, and unjustified administrative burdens.
  • Block attempts to increase penalties for criminal violations of OSHA.
  • Protect the use of binding arbitration in employment.
  • Advocate for pro-employer provisions in priority international labor and employment policy proposals.
  • Continue pushing for a reasonable application of the revised Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Oppose expanded application of the Davis-Bacon Act in legislative vehicles, such as those funding infrastructure projects.
