Farm Bill
Policy Priorities for 2008
- Support efforts to transform the nation's antiquated approach to agriculture through farm program reforms that would reduce direct payments to farmers, create voluntary Risk Management Accounts, and link countercyclical payments to a crop's national revenue rather than a government target.
- Oppose enactment of legislation that perpetuates a farm subsidy system that is patently inequitable and benefits only a handful of Americans; distorts international trade; and raises taxes that would jeopardize foreign investment in the United States, discourage domestic energy production by repealing production incentives, violate a number of international tax treaties, and adversely impact U.S. businesses and the economy.
