The energy and green growth working group held a business forum on November 5, 2009 to discuss energy, green growth, and climate change issues within the U.S.-Korea economic relationship. The forum, which included presentations from Korean government officials and U.S. and Korean policy and business experts on energy and climate change issues, focused around the following topics:
What goals do the U.S. and Korean business communities, and other stakeholders, share on energy security and climate change issues?
What potential opportunities exist for cooperation and collaboration on these issues between the U.S. and Korean business communities, within a bilateral, regional, and global context?
What would be useful actions for the U.S. and Korean business communities to take to accomplish these goals?
How can the United States and Korea most effectively utilize regional and global frameworks, such as APEC, to pursue shared interests?
During the discussion at this forum, participants concurred on the importance of cooperation between the United States and Korea in monitoring developments on a post-Kyoto mechanism; identifying opportunities for cooperation in promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency to provide an economic boost to both economies; and in promoting collaboration on energy-related R&D and in bringing new technologies and processes to market.
